We had two amazing one week sessions with the Newtown/Sandy Hook campers. Our time was spent outdoors running, playing and hiking. The kids created some meaningful art projects and learned our new Camp Creativity song! The children even incorporated virtues into pop songs and performed them for the parents and friends at our end of camp celebrations. They learned some very cool martial arts movements and broke wooden boards. The campers participated in a private show with Science Bob ~ THE Science Bob from Nichelodeon and Jimmy Kimmel Live! They pet exotic animals, played soccer with semi-pro players, and learned the A-B-C’s of saving money. Through all of our programs and activities, they learned resilience, team-building and how to develop self confidence.
Camp Sea Stars North
We cannot thank the staff and volunteers at Camp DanBee enough for welcoming our kids in such an enthusiastic and loving manner. Executive Director Jay really made our kids the priority for the two days we were there. He brought in amazing volunteers and worked tirelessly to make sure our campers were safe and happy. We truly cannot thank him enough, as well as everyone else who made Camp Sea Stars North possible. We are humbled, and so very appreciative of the enormous effort made by so many!!
One of our favorite programs we offer is Radiant Runners.
This program is offered to Newtown/Sandy Hook girls in grades 3-6 and is available for spring and fall sessions. Radiant Runners combines the love of running with power of yoga and mindful thinking. The girls stretch, run, and are introduced to yoga inspired learning that adds elements of daily mindfulness, stress reduction and relaxation exercises, uplifting and grounding yoga poses as well as time for deep relaxation. This unique curriculum guides girls to build self-confidence, explore self-awareness, and opens their hearts to happiness that comes from within. A theme is incorporated into each session with corresponding running activities, expressive art projects, and a gratitude journal. The girls also complete a Circle of Care community project as well. The program culminates with the girls running as a team in a 5K race.
