Five years after the tragedy, many impacted individuals still struggle with post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and grief.  Impacted individuals reported difficulty with the 5th anniversary of the shooting, as well as devastating retraumatization from events such as the shooting in LasVegas and Parkland. Mass shooting incidents and other mass casualty events continue to occur regularly in the U.S. and these events can serve as ongoing triggers for trauma and grief reactions.

The Resiliency Center of Newtown

The Resiliency Center of Newtown offers trauma-informed services focused on long-term individual and community healing for children and adults impacted by the tragedy at Sandy Hook School on December 14, 2012.  We serve the following community members:

  • Sandy Hook Elementary School Families
  • All school teachers and staff members (including bus drivers, coaches, instructors, volunteers, etc.)
  • All first responders, clergy and volunteers
  • All Newtown residents and the greater community impacted by December 14, 2012

The goal is to help people adapt to stressful events in a healthy and flexible way.  The Resiliency Center of Newtown helps individuals normalize their reaction to a very senseless act. The center has created an approachable, community-based environment to help people connect with others and encourage the healing process.
